Earl Proctor, 28, was killed at his home in the Edwards community last Thursday afternoon when his foot became caught in a trace chain on the mule he was riding to the field. According to relatives here Mr. Proctor and a brother were going to the field to work when the mule Proctor was riding became frightened at a ground slide along the road and jumped, causing him to fall and catch his foot in the trace chain ... It is said that the mule dragged him about a mile ... He was carried to his home immediately and died late in the afternoon, living about four hours after the runaway. He never regained consciousness from the injury.

Proctor was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Proctor, prominent people of their neighborhood and well known in the community. He was married and leaves a wife and one child.

Interment took place at the Robertson Cemetery Friday with Rev. J. W. Turner of the Bells and Alamo Baptist Churches holding the services.
