Funeral services for John William Newman, 70, were held Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Ronk Funeral Home with the Rev. Rowdy Davis and Rev. David Brinkley officiating. Burial was at Oak View Memorial Park.

Mr. Newman, a resident of Alamo, a retired heavy equipment operator for Jones manufacturing Co. and a Korean Army veteran, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, at his home of cancer.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Eugene Newman and Timmy Wayne Newman.

He is survived by his wife Jessie Frances Newman (Cowan) of Alamo; two sons, John Allen Newman of Gadsden and Alvin Monroe Newman of Alamo; a daughter, Rhonda Louann Parker of Alamo; three brothers, Tommy Newman of Tuscumbia, Alabama; Glenn Newman of Barrington Illionis; and James Newman of St. Charles, Illionis; two sisters, Ivie May Vaughn of Athens, Tennessee and Margarine Sparks of Independence Missouri; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
