The Crockett Times Alamo, Tenn. Thursday, December 12, 1946 Frank Jones Victim of Atlanta Fire The tragic death of Willard Franklin Jones, 21 year old son of Mrs. Edna York Jones of Friendship, in the Winecoff Hotel Fire in Atlanta last Saturday morning came as a great shock to the entire community. Franklin went to Atlanta for the weekend with a friend, James Little of Elizabethton, Tenn. Young Jones had been working at Oak Ridge, Tenn., for a couple of weeks. Full details of the tragedy may never be known but it is reported that he jumped from the eighth floor of the building, when the heat became unbearable. Franklin was the son of Mrs. Edna York Jones and the late D. H. Jones, Sr., of Friendship. He was the grandson of the late Dr. J. B. York. Besides his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Miss Carrie Mae Jones of Friendship and Mrs. Leon Byassee of Eaton; two half-sisters, Mrs. Sidney Johnson of this county and Mrs. Mosa Mays of Dyersburg and one half-brother, David Jones of Friendship. Franklin Jones was a fine young man. He graduated from Friendship High School and Bowling Green (Ky.) Business College and had many friends in Friendship and community. Evans and Lasiter Funeral Home ambulance brought the body to Friendship for services Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Methodist Church. Services by Rev. A. L. Mays. |
