The Crockett Times Alamo, Tennessee Thursday, August 12, 1948 Vol. 16 No. 24 Mrs. Kate Harwell--Mrs. Kate Harwell, 89, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. P. E. Bessent, in Friendship Sunday morning. Mrs. Harwell was in fair health until a few weeks ago when she fell and received injuries from which she never recovered. Mrs. Harwell was a daughter of the late Rev. W. C. T. Young, one of the pioneer Methodist preachers of this section, and was the widow of the late Joe P. Harwell, one of the community's outstanding citizens. She was known to everyone in the community as "Mammy" and her friends were numbered by her acquaintances. She reared a fine family of eleven children, six of whom survive. The survivors are three daughters, Mrs. P. E. Bessent and Mrs. R. A. Cole of Friendship and Mrs. W. E. Vernon, Sr., of Bradenton, Fla.; three sons, A. W. Harwell and J. I. Harwell of Friendship and W. D. Harwell of Memphis; two sisters, Mrs. J. F. Sanders of Parkin, Ark., and Mrs. W. A. Edwards of Blytheville, Ark.; a brother, Dr. J. C. Young of Jonesboro, Ark.; 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was a devout member of the Methodist Church. Services were held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Friendship Methodist Church by Rev. C. O. Frey, Rev. W. C. Skinner and Rev. J. B. Hill. The remains were interred at Mt. Zion Cemetery by the side of her late husband, Joe P. Harwell, with Friendship Funeral Home in charge. Elvira "Kate" Young was the daughter of William T. C. & Salena E. Young.
