Bells Youths Killed By Train Sunday

Two Bells youths were killed when an ice truck in which they were riding was struck by the L&N; Pan-American passenger train at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Fruitvale crossing, four miles north of Bells.

The train swept the 1 �-ton Chevrolet truck three quarters of a mile down the track before coming to a stop. Nearby residents said they heard the train's warning whistles before the crash.

The truck was struck behind the cab and twisted almost double, witnesses said. A Power & Light Co., official said that "only the tires could be salvaged."

Both boys were students at Bells High School and worked at odd jobs. Double funeral services were held in the school auditorium at 3:30 p.m. Monday.

The Chambers youth is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Chambers; a sister, Mrs. Geneva Dodson of Friendship, and a brother, Joe Chambers of Bells.

Young Webb is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Webb; three brothers, James Webb of St. Louis and Aubrey and L. P. Webb of Bells.
