Second obit:
The Crockett Times Thomas Carter Born October 4, 1876, age 69 years, 8 months and 10 days. Passed from this earth on June 14, 1946 at 5:30 a.m. at his home near Johnson Grove. The spirit of one of the purest and truest of earth's Christians. Mr. Thomas Carter passed from this earth leaving behind bleeding and aching hearts of tenderly devoted wife, son and wife, two grand children, and many relatives and friends to mourn his passing. His illness had been a long one, everything had been done but to no avail. God in His Heaves needed him for an Angel to bless and brighten that "great throne of love." He was everyone's friend and inspiration. Words could not express what a wonderful husband and father he was. While in his life he had some deep shadows, the star of hope never waned but through the days of storm the star shown brighter until the "perfect day." He began his stewardship for Christ at the age of fifteen when he joined the old Lanefield Methodist Church. He later, at the age of twenty, came to the Baptist Church at Johnson Grove where he taught four generations in his Sunday School Class, and was superintendent for several years in this church, one he loved and cherished until his passing. The community has been deprived greatly by his passing, yet we are grateful that his life was an inspiration to those just beginning to "bud into usefulness." Mr. Carter had lived in Crockett County all his life where he met and married Miss Lily Maie Riggsbee, 48 years ago. Their marriage was graced by two sons and one daughter of whom one survives, Harles Harden Carter, also one sister, Mrs. Jim Carter Mathews of Mount Zuma, Tenn. He leaves behind two grand children, Harles, Junior and Faye, and a large number of relatives and friends to mourn his passing. Funeral services were held at the Johnson Grove Baptist Church with Bros. J. T. Barker, W. A. West and W. E. Hughes conducting the services, on June 16 at 3:00 p.m. Interment was at Robertson Cemetery Goosmann Funeral Home in charge. |
