The Crockett Times Alamo, Tennessee Thursday, March 11, 1948 Vol. 16 No. 2 S. H. (Sam) Burnett died Tuesday afternoon in St. Petersburg, Fla., where he was spending the winter. Mr. Burnett was 77 years of age. He suffered a stroke a few years ago from which he never fully recovered. Mr. Burnett was a member of one of the pioneer families of the county and was born and reared in the Eighth District where he spent the greater part of his life. He was a member of the county court for many years and was Chairman of that body for several years. He was always active in political affairs and a gifted public speaker. He was well known throughout the county and had many friends. Mr. Burnett married Miss Mollie Worrell when a young man and reared the following sons who survive: Hill of Jackson, Dallas of No. 8, Leon of Jackson and Dorsey of Elizabethton, Tenn. "Miss" Mollie passed away several years ago. He was married about two years ago to Mrs. Madella Anderson of Kentland, Ind., who survives. The remains are expected to arrive in Alamo Thursday afternoon and funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at the home in District No. 8. Rev. Frank Perry will conduct services. Thompson Funeral Home in charge. Samuel Henry Burnett was the son of James Thomas Burnett & Macy R. Jones. He married 18 Feb 1897 in Crockett Co. to Mary V. (Mollie) Worrell, the daughter of James Ransom Worrell & Lamanda J. (Amanda) Robertson. |
