Humboldt Courier-Chroncle Gibson Co., TN Friday June 15, 1923 ALAMO GIRL HIT BY AUTOMOBILE--Memphis, Tenn., June 11. MISS LOIS BRANCH, 19, school teacher of Alamo, Tenn., and a summer student at the West Tennessee State Normal School, was fatally injured yesterday afternoon, when struck and run over by a passenger car as she stepped aboard a passenger bus in front of the Oakville Sanitarum on the Pigeon Roost Road. The young woman was dragged 15 to 20 feet, witnesses said. Falling beneath the car, both wheels ran over her. The driver of the car failed to stop, witnesses declared, but kept running at undiminished speed until lost from view. A few moments after her arrival at the hospital, C. R. CARTER, 51, of 165 Nebraska, appeared and told the attendants he was the driver of the car. She leaves a twin sister, Lorine [Lois was the daughter of Elihu H. (Eli) Branch & Eunice Randle] |
