The Crockett Times Alamo, Tennessee Thursday, October 21, 1948 Vol. 16 No. 34 Lee J. Blackmon--Funeral services were held yesterday, Wednesday, at the Friendship Methodist Church at 2:30 p.m. for L. J. Blackmon, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Credie Smith near Atwood early Tuesday morning. Rev. S. B. Morrison of Newbern and Mr. Floyd Strickland officiated. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery under the direction of Friendship Funeral Home. Mr. Blackmon was 83 years and 7 months, and until the past year had been very active. He walked to Mt. Zion and kept the cemetery in fine shape. He was not only a hard worker but honest and upright in all of his dealings and known to young and old as "Uncle Lee." His wife, Anna Singleton Blackmon, preceded him in death by 21 years. He leaves three children, Mrs. Orie Howe and Mrs. A. W. Climer of Dyersburg and Mrs. Credie Smith of Atwood; two sons, Herman Blackmon of Trumann, Ark., and Norton Blackmon of Detroit, Mich.; nineteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. |
