Traffic Mishap Fatal to Mrs. Emma Betts

Mrs. Emma Betts, member of a well known family of the Center community, west of Humboldt, was killed as she was attempting to cross Alternate Highway 70 at Gadsden Tuesday morning.

Services were held at the Center Methodist Church at 10 Thursday morning, the Rev. H. J. Smith, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Center Cemetery with Ronk Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Betts was 65.

Officers reported Mrs. Betts was struck by a truck loaded with oranges. The truck was traveling east, and after striking Mrs. Betts the driver lost control and headed off the highway into a small ditch overturning the truck.

Mrs. Betts' body was brought to Humboldt by a Hunt Funeral Home ambulance, and at the Oursler-Rozelle Clinic, Mrs. Betts was pronounced dead on arrival.

She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Taylor, prominent family of Crockett County of the Coxville neighborhood. For several years she and her husband, James F. Betts, who died a few years ago, operated a general store in the Coxville neighborhood. She was a member of Center Methodist Church.
