The Crockett Times Alamo, Tennessee Thursday, March 1, 1951 Vol. 19 No. 1 MRS. J. R. AUSTIN Services for Mrs. Betty Bell Austin were held at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Baptist Church in Maury City. The Rev. Ben Hill, Baptist minister of Friendship officiated. Burial was in the Maury City Cemetery with Sudbury Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Austin died early Saturday morning after an illness of about three weeks. Mrs. Austin, a prominent resident of near Maury City, was born in Madison County and spent most of her life in Lauderdale and Crockett Counties. She was the wife of J. R. Austin, well-known farmer of Crockett County. She was 85, active in Baptist Church activities until recent years. She leaves her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Oliver Hilliard of Halls, Tenn.; four sons, Dr. C. L. Johnson of Memphis; Early Austin, well-known landowner of Crockett County; Johnny Austin, owner and operator of Austin's Gin in Maury City and Elbert Austin, merchant of Maury City; a stepson, Willie Austin of Maury City; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. |
