Excerpts from the Tri-County News - Volume 2, No. 41 (Thursday, March 12, 1914)

Miss Kitty DAVIS of Dyersburg assisted by Mrs. B. F. HALL and Mrs. Will STALLINGS, entertained a few of her many friends at the home of Mr. & Mrs. C. P. SCALES of this place last Friday night. Progressive Rook was enjoyed until a late hour when the daintiest of refreshments were served. Every guest enjoyed the evening to the fullest extent. Mr. Ned YORK won the gift of honor by capturing the most points in each game.

Will MAXWELL was in Maury City Tuesday.

Master Alva LOVE is quite ill of pneumonia.

Carl BADGETT of Maury City was in town yesterday.

Dr. Will STALLINGS of Memphis visited his family here last week.

Jim SCREWS, who has been dangerously ill of pneumonia, is improving.

D. D. ROBERTSON of Brownsville was here Sunday.

The vote in the municipal election last Thursday was as follows Mayor: Frank MOORE 54, Thad HALEY 47; Aldermen: L. E. SANDERS 62, B. F. SUDBURY 57, A. M. ODLE 56, Roy COFFMAN 54, W. E. WRAY 40, Ed EVANS 45, C. H. SCALES 45, J. L. STALLINGS 45; City Magistrate: J. F. PARK 41, John CARMAN 55. SANDERS, SUDBURY, ODLE, and COFFMAN were elected Alderman.

Friendship now has seven automobiles. We'll wait and buy the 13th.

Mr. & Mrs. Euriah HARDY of Dyersburg were guests of Mr. & Mrs. Frank MOORE Sunday.

Dr. M. E. O'NEAL of Maury City went to Jackson Monday to buy a new car.

Carl GRIFFIN was in Maury City Sunday.

Rev. J. T. BARKER of Greenfield preached two very able sermons at the Opera House Sunday.

Mr. & Mrs. Ernest BEAVER of Dyersburg were guests of Mr. & Mrs. R. E. PARKER Sunday.

The old Friendship Pharmacy bldg. on Depot Street is being converted into a pool room, barber shop and restaurant. E. F. BUCKLES will run the barber shop and restaurant and Horace HOWELL will run the pool room.

Dr. W. M. THOMPSON went to Jackson Monday and purchased a new Ford car. He was accompanied by Mr. John WRAY.

Chas. ROGERS of Bonicord was on our streets last week.

Wiley PARK of Friendship was here Saturday - Maury City Republican

W. J. SMITH of Bonicord was in town Tuesday.

Roy T. COFFMAN has moved his stock of drugs into his new building on the corner of Main and Depot Streets. This is one of the nicest buildings in the county and the drug store will be up-to-date in every respect. It will be lighted by electricity. The building of this modern brick on the corner where the Grounds drug store stood for many years, marks a great improvement in this growing town.

J. L. CRAIG was in Alamo Monday.

Dr. NUNN of Halls was here Monday.

Mrs. W. B. RALPH is quite sick at this writing with pneumonia.

Will BOWEN is putting in a large stock of farming implements on North Depot St.

Esq. A. D. TAYLOR of Eaton was here last week on business.

Miss Grace OWEN of Eaton was the guest of homefolks Sunday.

Dr. DUANEY of Dyersburg was here Friday to assist Dr. T. D. McDOUGALD in an operation on W. B. RALPH.

A fine horse belonging to John ELIZER died last week.

Miss Emma Sue WARREN visited friends in Friendship this week.

Mrs. Nannie JONES of Friendship visited friends here first of the week.

Chester YORK of Chestnut Bluff was here this week on business.

Miss Josie GLENN visited relatives in Dyersburg last week.

Rev. D. A. PARRISH went to Henning this week.

March 21st will be horse show day at Tigrett.

Herbert, the little son of Mr. & Mrs. Geo. RICE, has been quite sick for several days but is much better now.

Mrs. WILLIAMS and children of Carroll County are visiting her sister, Mrs. C. K. DESHAZO.

W. L. HOLMAN, our produce dealer, was in Bells this week.

Mr. & Mrs. D. B. WHITE of Bonicord visited here Sunday.

Roy PRIVETT leaves this week for Missouri.

Joe BAIN transacted business in Friendship last week.

Esq. & Mrs. W. S. FROST visited in Friendship Thursday.

Messrs. Walter HILL and Tom NASH were in Friendship Tuesday.

Joe Henry GREEN, aged citizen of the Tigrett community, died Saturday as a result of wounds received from falling on a pitchfork while hauling hay Tuesday.

Mrs. NUNN and daughter, Miss Nina were shopping in Friendship Tuesday.

Rev. Edgar WILLIAMS and wife of Martin were visitors here recently.

Mrs. Jerry SUDBURY and children of Friendship visited Mr. & Mrs. W. C. JAMES Sunday.

Mrs. M. M. EASON went to Memphis last week for special treatment.

Mrs. B. F. YOUNG was a visitor in Gadsden.

M. M. EASON has purchased a new incubator.

W. C. JAMES is building a barn on the gin lot.

Dr. W. T. REDMOND was in Alamo Monday.

R. M. WALTON of Friendship was a visitor here Sunday.

Saturday, March 28, is horse show day here. Music by the band.

W. B. TRIMBLE, the road contractor has been doing some fine work in Number 9. Mr. TRIMBLE is putting the roads in good shape in his territory.
