D. H. Thomas, M. D., druggist, of Bell�s Depot, Tenn., was born in Williamson
County, December 22, 1830, son of William and Eliza (Bass) Thomas, who
were Virginians. The former died in 1841. D H. Thomas is the eighth of
eleven children, and worked on a farm until sixteen years of age. From
that time until he was twenty he remained in school, then came to West
Tennessee, where he resided two years. He began studying medicine, and
in the spring of 1853 entered the Eclectic Medical College at Cincinnati,
Ohio, and graduated in June, 1854. In the fall of 1854 he began practicing
in Trenton, Tenn., but in February, 1856, removed to Haywood County (now
Crockett County), where he resided until 1876. In 1859 and 1860 he attended
the New Orleans (La.) Medical School. Since 1876 he has resided in Bell�s
Depot engaged in the drug business. On February 11, 1877, he married E.
N. Parker, and their union has resulted in the birth of three children:
William Nelson, Mary and Ella. Dr. Thomas is a Democrat in his political
views, and belongs to the Masonic fraternity.
