| T. N. Skelton, trustee of Crockett County, Tenn., was born in Mississippi
May 14, 1844. His father was a Virginian, and died in 1846, shortly after
his immigration to Mississippi. His mother, whose maiden name was Frances
R. Noel, was also a Virginian, and died in Tennessee in 1865. Our subject

on the farm until the date of the late war, when he joined the Confederate
Army, Twenty-seventh Tennessee Infantry, Company C. He was wounded in the

through his arm and lodged in a Testament in his pocket. After his recovery
he joined the Kentucky campaign from Chattanooga, and was again wounded
at Perryville, Ky. He was shot in the right shoulder and discharged, not
being able for further duty. He returned home and attended school one year
(1864), and at the expiration of the time began school-teaching, and continued
until 1871, with the exception of one year, when he was a clerk in the
merchandise business. In 1872 he began farming, and in 1882 was elected
to his present position, and re-elected the two succeeding terms. He was
married, October 13, 1870, to Margaret Dean. They have no children. Mr.
Skelton is a Democrat.
