G. A. Robertson is a North Carolinian, born October 1, 1816. His parents,
Noah and Louisa Robertson, were born in North Carolina in 1790 and 1795,
and died in 1854 and 1882, respectively. Our subject was reared on a farm,
but his principal occupation was making tar and turpentine. He came to
Tennessee in 1835, and located near where he now resides. At a very early
age he began working at the cabinet-maker�s trade and followed that successfully
up to the date of the late war. During that time he was in the saw and
grist-mill and wool-carding business, continuing the former business about
six years after the war. About this time he met with a serious accident.
He was caught in the mill and was injured in such a way that he was compelled
to have his foot amputated. Since that time he has been very successfully
engaged in the undertaker�s business. He was married in 1849, to Millie
White, daughter of Allen and Elizabeth White, and by her is the father
of four children: Caroline, who died in 1864; Lamanda J., wife of J. R.
World; Noah, deceased; Louisa, widow of M. H. Eason. Mr. Robertson is worth
$4,000, and is a man of influence in the community in which he resides.
He and wife are members of the Missionary Baptist Church, and he is a Democrat
and Prohibitionist.
