W. A. Powell, Esq.
W. A. Powell, Esq., was born August 30, 1847. His father was a native of North Carolina, and was born in1812. He was a successful and an eminent physicist and amassed good property which was mostly lost during the war. Our subject worked on a farm until about the age of fifteen years, when he entered college in Kentucky, and later at Jackson, Tenn., and in September, 1868, entered Cumberland University, at Lebanon, for the purpose of studying law, and graduated in December 1869. He began the practice the following year at Humboldt, and continued there until the formation of this county in 1872, since which time he has been a resident of this place. In December, 1874, he married Rebecca McLeary, of Gibson County, daughter of Andrew and Martha McLeary, and to this union five children have been born: Clayton, Robert T., Hamlet, Ralph R. and William Earl. Politically Mr. Powell is a Democrat. |
