Thomas E. Noel
Thomas E. Noel was born in Virginia, May 25, 1824, son of Ewel and Lucy Noel, who were also Virginians; the former was born about 1781, and died in Tennessee (whither he had moved in 1834), in 1852. He was of English descent and his wife of Scottish origin. Thomas E. worked on his fathers farm until he was about twenty-seven years of age and then began merchandising in Lanefield, continuing until 1861. He then suspended business until the close of the war, then came to Bells Depot where he has since resided. In 1852 he wedded Mary F. Noel, a native Virginian, and their union resulted in the birth of four children, two of whom are living; Mary E. (Mrs. T. W. Hardy) and Ewel. After this wifes death, Mr. Noel (February 3, 1879) married Emma I. Green who died, leaving one child, Olive. March 14, 1883, Mr. Noel married his third wife, Katie Ford, of North Carolina. Their fourth child died in infancy. Mr. Noel is one of the worthy citizens of the county. His educational advantages were very limited and many of his evenings were spent in studying by the firelight. He has been a member of the Christian Church for thirty years, and is a Democrat in his political views. |
