| Thomas E. Noel was born in Virginia, May 25, 1824, son of Ewel and Lucy
Noel, who were also Virginians; the former was born about 1781, and died
in Tennessee (whither he had moved in 1834), in 1852. He was of English
descent and his wife of Scottish origin. Thomas E. worked on his father�s
farm until he was about twenty-seven years of age and then began merchandising
in Lanefield, continuing until 1861. He then suspended business until the
close of the war, then came to Bell�s Depot where he has since resided.
In 1852 he wedded Mary F. Noel, a native Virginian, and their union resulted
in the birth of four children, two of whom are living; Mary E. (Mrs. T.
W. Hardy) and Ewel. After this wife�s death, Mr. Noel (February 3, 1879)
married Emma I. Green who died, leaving one child, Olive. March 14, 1883,
Mr. Noel married his third wife, Katie Ford, of North Carolina. Their fourth
child died in infancy. Mr. Noel is one of the worthy citizens of the county.
His educational advantages were very limited and many of his evenings were
spent in studying by the firelight. He has been a member of the Christian
Church for thirty years, and is a Democrat in his political views.
