| Dr. E. Hughes, druggist and practicing physician of Johnson�s Grove,
Tenn., is a native of the county, born December 25, 1857. His parents,
Sumner and Sarenia (Harrell) Hughes, were born in North Carolina in 1814
and 1838, respectively. The father, who was twice married, died in Tennessee,
October 17, 1868, but his widow still survives him. Dr. Hughes is the third
of four children born to his father�s second marriage. His early days were
spent on a farm, and in 1880 and 1881 he attended the medical university
of Tennessee at Nashville, and graduated in 1882 at the Memphis Medical
Hospital. He located at Perkins� Store, Lauderdale County, but in 1883
came to Johnson�s Grove, and engaged in the drug business the following
fall. He has been quite successful in the practice of his profession, and
is a consistent member of the Missionary Baptist Church. He is a Democrat
in politics, and a stanch prohibitionist
