J. M. Cochran

J. M. Cochran's birth occurred in Williamson County, Tenn., in 1841; he is one of six surviving members of a family of eleven children. His father was born in Williamson County, March 6, 1814, and resided in that county until 1850, when he moved to Haywood County. He was a farmer, and died January 16, 1867. His wife, whose maiden name was Allaminta B. May, was born in Rutherford County, July 11, 1822, and is now living with her youngest son, R. B. Cochran. J. M, Cochran was educated in the schools near his home, and March 18, 1863, married Ary Adaline, daughter of J. T. Coleman. Mrs. Cochran was born in Rutherford County, January 13, 1841, and is the mother of three children: Mary, wife of Alfred Taylor; Betty (Mrs. G. T. White), and Lemisa (Mrs. J. J. Davis). Mr. Cochran has lived on his father's old homestead since 1866. In 1877 he was elected magistrate of his district, and by re-election still holds the office. He is an active, energetic business man, and is much esteemed as a citizen and neighbor. He is a Democrat, a member of the I.O.O.F., and he and wife are members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. May 28, 1851, he joined Company D, Twelfth Tennessee Infantry, his captain being John Hill. He was at Belmont and Shiloh, and on account of sickness, was confined in the hospital for some time. He returned home June 13, 1862.
