S. G. Booth

S. G. Booth, farmer and native of Crockett County, Tenn., was born in 1844, son of S. S. and M. J. (Cates) Booth, who were born in Tennessee and North Carolina, in 1809 and 1810, and died in 1879 and 1880, respectively. The father was among the early settlers and farmers of Haywood County, coming here in 1822. Our subject was educated in the district schools, and in 1866 married Cynthia, daughter of Dennis and Harriett Tatum. Mrs. Booth was born in Giles County in 1843, and became the mother of the following children: Cordelia, William, Beatrice, Julia, Elbert and Wesbey. Mr. Booth owns a fine farm, situated near Maury City, where he has resided since 1879. In 1874 he was elected magistrate, and has held that office in three different districts. In 1882 he was elected sheriff of Crockett County, and served one term. He has always been a wide-awake businessman and a good manager, and takes an active interest in the general improvement of the county. He is a Republican in politics, and is a member of the Masonic fraternity. He and Mrs. Booth are members of the Missionary Baptist Church.
