Dr. James was in the Lee county Virginia area by 1790 - 1794. He was a member of the Vincent Hobbs party that killed the Indian BENGE in the spring of 1794 near Wise County Virginia. Dr. James and Obedience had the following Children: James Jr. 1793 - 1879, Nancy 1803-??, Isaac 1804-1879, Winston 1806-1890, Thomas Jefferson 1807- ???. Unable to trace Dr. James to any previous Huff lines???? Dr. James and Obedience moved to Harlan County, Kentucky about 1818. Obedience died ca 1860 and Dr. James died in Harlan County ca 1870.

• William Brady SAFLEY moved from Gold Hill, NC with wife Mary Ann BILES and 8 children to Cocke Co. in 1859. In 1862 he joined Co. I, 80 Reg. TN Infantry & served as a private until his capture at Vicksburg. He signed an oath of allegiance on 6-4-1863. He died soon after returning home & is buried somewhere in Cocke Co. By 1869 his wife & children moved to Greensboro, AR. By the 1880's most of the children and the wife moved to OR. The 4th child stayed in AR. Alexander W. SAFLEY married Mary L MCCullough in 1872. They had 6-11 children (6 can be proved). They moved to W. Plains, MO in 1889. Mary died in early 1890 giving birth to their last child. A few months later he married Mary A.C. WREN in Newport, TN. Her father was the Rev. Robert WREN. She was A.W.'s childhood friend. They had no kids. A.W. died May 1926 and she died Dec. 1931 both in W.Plains, Mo. I am looking for info on A.W. and Mary. A.C.'s marriage date; infor on her family; where William B. was buried/when & infor about his life in Cocke Co.

• I'm seeking any info about my grandfather, Christopher Inman and his father, William C. Inman and my grandmother who was full Cherokee. Both grandfathers lived in Sevier and cocke counties I have found data on my grandfather Christopher but unsuccessful finding anything on my grandmother.From everything I have gathered to date, indicates my lineage is from Shadrach Inman from Newport. • Trying to locate a John Oscar GRAY who was possibly a son of George Gray and Elizabeth McNabb of Cocke County, TN. He should have been born around the 1870 to 1880 timeframe. There are two John Grays in the 1870 census and three in the 1880 census but no indication of a middle name. George Gray and Elizabeth McNabb the parents of a John Gray but again no middle name. • Like many others, I have been told that my 2nd great grandmother, Mary Jane Mode Dover, was full blooded Cherokee. She and many of her children had long, black hair and brown eyes. She was born ca. 1848 in or near McDowell Co., NC. Had a son, John Thomas Mode b. 1867, NC, either by a previous marriage or out of wedlock. She married ca. 1870 to Augustus C. Dover in or near McDowell Co. I can not find her and John Thomas in the 1870 census. She and their new family, including my great grandfather John Thomas Mode, moved to Cocke Co., TN ca. 1889 and then on to Blount Co. I am not sure if she gave her son John Thomas her maiden name or his fathers name. Everyone I have interviewed has said that Mary Jane Mode was Cherokee. Would love to solve this mystery
