Brownlow, State of Tennessee, with regard to the 9th Infantry Regiment reads as follows: &#8220;This regiment was never mustered into service-it being transferred and merged into other regiments before it was completely organized, or rolls made for it.&#8221; No mention of the regiment is made in the <i>Official Records<\/i>. The muster-in roll of the field and staff officers of Colonel John A. Rogers&#8217; 7th Tennessee Infantry had the &#8220;7th&#8221; crossed out and the &#8220;9th&#8221; written in. The regiment was evidently first called the 7th Tennessee Infantry, and since there was already a 7th East Tennessee Infantry, the name was changed to the 9th. Since Colonel Rogers&#8217; regiment was referred to in the <i>Official Records<\/i> as the 7th Tennessee, the history of this regiment will be found under that name.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The report of Adjutant General James P.
