George W. Carter’s Battalion of Mounted Scouts, Co. “B” (Glover)

Armstrong’s History of Hamilton County says Captain Samuel Glover raised this company in Hamilton County, was captured in January 1865, and sent to prison at Camp Chase, Ohio. No muster roll of the company was found. George W. Carter commanded a company of cavalry which served in the 4th (Murray’s) Regiment, then in the 1st Confederate Cavalry Regiment, and finally in the 13th Tennessee Cavalry Regiment. No records were found of Carter’s Battalion, but he may have had other companies serving with him in the capacity of scouts for Major General Joseph Wheeler’s Cavalry Corps.
