HAMLETT, Joe E. (1930)
Esq. HAMLETT Passes Away
The news of the death of Joe E. HAMLETT, which occurred at Los Angeles, California on Dec. 19th, will be received with deep regret by his many friends throughout this section.
He moved to Texas from this place about twenty years ago, first locating at Fort Worth. For the past few years he lived at Abilene, Texas, and it was there that he was stricken with leakage of the heart. His condition becoming serious, his devoted sister, Mrs. James G. GILLESPIE, formerly Miss Bessie HAMLETT, so affectionately remembered by many of our citizens, hurried to his bedside and carried him to Los Angeles where she resides. There was no hope for his recovery, but she did hope that the climatic change would prolong his life.
Everything that was humanly possible was done for him, but death would not be denied. He met it, as he had lived, courageously, with a smile upon his lips, maintaining his sense of humor to the last.
The burial took place on the 21st attended by a number of friends, among them, prominent in the social life of Henderson in former days, being Mrs. Susie KIRK, Mr. and Mrs. John W. ESTES, Mr. Will MONTIGUE and wife.
