{"id":196,"date":"2012-07-14T00:43:40","date_gmt":"2012-07-14T05:43:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/carroll\/?p=196"},"modified":"2023-04-08T00:39:43","modified_gmt":"2023-04-08T05:39:43","slug":"null-jim-boiler-bursts-fireman-scalded-1897","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/carroll\/null-jim-boiler-bursts-fireman-scalded-1897\/","title":{"rendered":"NULL, Jim &#8211; Boiler Bursts; Fireman Scalded (1897)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">A Boiler Bursts<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> <span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The Fireman Scalded and Others Badly Frightened<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Considerable excitement was created last Tuesday afternoon just before closing time by the bursting of the boiler of Leach &amp; Son&#8217;s saw mill, in the western portion of the town. \u00a0The noise was heard and crowds started in the direction of the mill from all parts of the town, and as they neared the mill the excitement was intensified by the screaming and hollering of the negro women in the vicinity of the accident, who, believing some of their people hurt, became very demonstrative and noisy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">After the smoke and dust had cleared away so that the amount of the damage could be ascrtained it was found that only one man had received any injuries. \u00a0<strong>Jim NULL<\/strong>, colored, the fireman, was considerably scalded about the head and hands. \u00a0He wore heavy clothes which protected his body and it is believed that the injury will not prove very serious. \u00a0<strong>J.F.
