ROBESON<\/strong> turned over to Jailor<strong> S.J. CHAMBERS<\/strong>, last Tuesday,<strong> VAN SHANKLEFORD<\/strong>, who was committed to jail to await the action of the grand jury. <strong>\u00a0Mr. SHANKLEFORD<\/strong> is charged with breaking into the store of <strong>John ADAMS<\/strong>, in which the post office is kept, at Lavinia. \u00a0Several small articles of merchandise and about $19 worth of postage stamps were taken. \u00a0The burglary was committed last Friday night and <strong>Mr. ROBESON<\/strong> captured his man in the edge of Henderson county last Sunday. \u00a0He was tried Monday, bound over to the court and in default of bail committed to jail. \u00a0He is in a bad row of stumps, for when the state gets through with him the United States government will give him a round. \u00a0Shankleford has figured in the criminal court before.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><em>Source: Carroll County Democrat, 19 Feb 1897, pg. 1.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ex-Sheriff M.B.
