The Dethro\/Dettero\/Detherow\/Tetherow\/Totherow (name spelled 37 different ways) family are believed to be connected to Elias “Eli” Samuel DETHROW (b1826), David DOTHEROW (b1825), and Joseph C. DEATHEROO (B1821), 3 orphan boys who lost their mother when she drown (not verified). Eli was sent to be raised by an old “doctor” (don’t know if that was occupation or 1st name) who raced horses (and was so good at it that he disguised his horse, or so the story goes). \nThis is my first inquirey into my Native American ancestry. On my maternal side I am told that my 3gr. grandmother was Caldonia CARSON, a full-blood Cherokee. There is in the family a very large portrait of her and she appears to be full blood. My grandmother was Ella HENDERSON BALL, of Bradley co., b. 1879, and Caldonia CARSON was her grandmother. It could be possible that being so close to Cherokee co. NC, and considering the time that the portion of Bradley co. could still have been a part of North Carolina. If there is anyone out there that has any knowledge of these family connections I would truly appreciate any info you would be willing to give to me.
