This is a cooperative effort between the Tennessee State Library & Archives and the TNGenWeb Project. Our aim is to index every available newspaper in the TSLA collection and make the images and index available free on-line in perpetuity.
We are indexing, not transcribing or abstracting. Effective researchers need good pointers to resources, which they can then study and evaluate. They don’t need someone(s) else’s derivative idea of what is important to their historical explorations.
Would you like to participate? You can work from just about any device, in your own time. Speed is not important — accuracy is! You need a free user account for login, which requires an e-mail address.
Periodically, we will hold on-line orientation sessions by Zoom. The initial orientation sessions are below, along with a link to registration. If you don’t have time to pre-register, send an e-mail via the “Contact” button on this page so we can give you the Zoom link.
We also have a Facebook group that interested volunteers can sign up for.

- Sunday, January 9, 2022 – 6:00 – 7:00pm Eastern [Register]
- Wednesday, January 18, 2022 – 7:30-8:30 Eastern [Register]
We hope to see you there! Please also feel free to share this with anyone who may be interested, including e-mail lists, Facebook groups, etc.
I have lost the link to post my Maryville Newspapers 1800’s & TN Blount County Coordinator Taneya has not replied to my emails since March. Can someone contact me so I can upload my progress
Hi,
The links to register for the orientation are not working.
Judy
I would love to help with your indexing project if you still need volunteers. I am an employee of FamilySearch and I have a bachelor’s degree from BYU Idaho in Professional Studies and have received the beginner and advanced degrees in Family History research. If you still need help, I am interested.
I learned about this project from the Bridge Forum presentation that Taneya Koonce gave on May 16, 2024. I would also be happy to help her with her North Carolina project. I have roots in the pioneers of both Tennessee and North Carolina. Sincerely, Elise Smith
