Bakers Chapel United Methodist

Bakers Chapel is located six miles South of Big Sandy. When the church was established it was the Methodist Episcopal South and named after Gib Baker.

The first acre of land was purchased for one dollar from J. N. Alsup in 1893, then in 1894 Will Rushing and James White began work on the building.

The first sermon was preached on the fourth sunday in September by Reverend W. A Diggs. The church trustees were J. H. Hudson, T. W. Barnes, J.P. Baker, H. E. Stigall and Clay Rushing. The missionary committee was Misses Grace Baker, Allis Barnes, Alma Wygul, Mrs. Josephine Herring and Miss Ruby Wyatt secretary.
