Mystery of the Unknown Lady
By Doris (Melton) Hightower

About 1994 I uncovered a framed tin picture in a
box of miscellaneous picture frames at the small flea
market next to West End Grocery. My first thought was how
important the unknown lady appeared-how could this photo
find its home in a pile of junk? I was so stunned that I
bought it for a mere $2.00. My interest in genealogy made
me determined to get it back to some of her family.
No dates or names were written on the picture. A
small piece of newspaper was used as a lining between the
picture and the frame. On it was a small advertisement of
the 1927 Dodge car.
Benton County's Librarian, Mrs. Whitworth, helped
me search through several books in hopes of stumbling
across her face. I've even sent a copy of the unknown
lady to several magazines in hopes that someone,
somewhere, could identify her.
Now I turn to the people of Benton County in hopes
that someone will remember her face and help me return
the picture back to her family.
