At a County Court began and held for the County of Benton at the Courthouse in the Town of Camden on the first Monday in October it being the 4th day of said Month in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and Forty seven and 72nd year of American Independence their being present and presiding on the bench the worshipfuls, Esqrs, (to wit) Elijah Alsop, Nathan Williams and John W. Davidson, Sterling Brewer, E. Perkins, William Barns, William M. McAley, J.K. Thomas, John D. Rushing, David M. Burkett.
On Motion it is ordered by the Court that George C. Swindle be appointed overseer of the road to work from Big Cypress Creek to the Natchez Trace road, hands as follows; Nathaniel Nunnery, William Swindle, Isaac Anderson, Zechariah Barker’s hands, Meridith Edwards, John N. Stier and all other hands in the bounds shall work under said George C. Swindle on said road which is established in the 2nd Class.
Personally appeared in open Court D.P. Hudson one of the Acting Justices of the Peace in the 5th Civil District of said County and tendered his resignation as such to the Court which was received. Whereupon it is ordered by the Court that the Sheriff proceed to open and hold an election in said district to fill said vacancy.
On Motion it is ordered by the Court that David Dorch be appointed overseer of the road to work from the ford of Sugar Creek to the top of the hill this side of William Wright’s and the following shall be the bounds of said (to wit) from the ford of Sugar Creek down said Creek to its Mouth thence down Sandy to the Mouth of Hurrican Creek, thence up said Creek to its head excepting James Cooper thence with the Ridge to the beginning including all West of the road and all the hands in these bounds shall work under said David Dorch on said road which is established in the 2nd Class.
On Motion of Joel Tadder and Elisha Tedder who Made oath according to law and together with them Nathaniel Nunnery and John W. Davidson their securities who appeared in open Court and acknowledged the due execution of their bond in the penal sum of Five hundred dollars conditioned as the law directs. Whereupon it is ordered by the Court that they have letters of Administration upon the estate of James Tedder deceased to be Made out in due form of law when required.
The Clerk of this Court presented the following settlements (to wit);
One Made with M.C. Barnett, Guardian of James Harrison and One Made with Alexander McRae guardian of the Minor heirs of Mathew Melton deceased, and one made with Nathaniel Holmes administrator estate of Robert Holmes, deceased which said settlement was examined and approved by the Court and ordered to be recorded.

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that John W. Dudley overseer of the
Personally appeared in open Court Charles J. Wheatley guardian of the Minor heirs of John Nobles deceased and together with him John Wynn and John D. Rushing his securities who appeared in open Court and acknowledged the due execution of their bond in the penal sum of one hundred dollars conditioned as the law directs.
The Court then proceeded to Make an appropriation to Wm. P. Morris Clerk of said Court for the following services (to wit) for recording the report of the common school Commissioners and copy to superintend for settlement with Trustee and Trustees bond to draw school fund $7.00 and for 107 Jury tickets at 6½ cents each. $6.68¾ Making in all $13.64½ and there being present and presiding on the bench a majority of all the Justices in Benton County and all voting in the affirmative. It is therefore ordered by the Court that the Trustee pay the same out of any money in the Treasury for general County purposes Not otherwise appropriated.
On Motion and it appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that Stephen W. Byrn, Beverly Herron, E.W. lynch, Levin Cottingham and Littleton B. Allen have all been charged with poll tax and it also appearing to the satisfaction of said Court that the said persons are over age. It is therefore ordered by the Court there being present and presiding on the Bench a majority of all voting in the affirmative, it is therefore ordered by the Court that they have a credit with the Tax Collector for the same and that the Trustee also allow the Collector a credit upon settlement for the same.
On Motion it is ordered by the Court that James H. Bridges be appointed overseer of the road to work from the Town of Camden to Lilly Crocker’s, hands as follows; Lilly Crocker, John T. Holland, Bennett Holland, J.A. Pope, Jonathan Jordan, Charles Cowells and all other hands in the bounds shall work under said James H. Bridges on said road which is established in the 2nd Class.
One of the Jurors of Review who was appointed at a former term of this Court to view and Mark a road to lead from Sulpher Springs to Porter’s Mill Made report to this Court favorable to the establishment of said road which said report is objected to by the Court and said alteration is not established a highway of this County.
On Motion it is ordered by the Court that Zechariah Childress be appointed overseer of the road to work from Floyd’s old place to the levy in Sandy Bottom, hands as follows; Robert Jones, Hyram Pearce, William Click, Cullen French, Hugh Alsop, David Alsop, John Ragsdale, D.N. Shilling, William Barnes, James Lockhart, John Lowery, Eligah Lowery, William Warmack, and all other hands in the bounds shall work under said Childress on said road which is established in the 2nd Class.
On Motion it is ordered by the Court that David A. Askew, A.W.C. Matheny, William Lindsey, Noah Wyatt, William Waters, Nathaniel Stagner and Ashley Askew be appointed a Jury of Review to view and Mark an alteration in the road from Wynn’s ferry to the Town of Camden, commencing on the road leading to Wynn’s ferry to Paris at or near David Askew’s and running by Drew A. Askew’s house thence a southern direction to an outhouse on the Point Mason road some four Miles from Point Mason continuing a south direction so as to intersect the road leading from Willis Rushing’s to Point Mason at or near William Cottingham’s and to Make report to the Next term of this Court of the advantages and disadvantages arising to the public and to the individuals.
On Motion it is ordered by the Court that the road leading from Nelson Pearce’s old place to A.G. Morris’ be disannulled, and discontinued and no longer a highway of this county.
On Motion it is ordered by the Court that Drew A. Askew, B.F. Akers, B.P. Simmonds, R.C. Mathis, Jesse D. Hall and L.B. Allen be appointed a jury of Review to view and Mark a road beginning at or near D.A. Askew’s running with the old road to R.C. Mathews thence to Jesse D. Halls thence to Littleton Allen’s and to Make report to the Next term of this Court of the advantages and disadvantages arising to the public and to individuals.
The Court then proceeded to Make an appropriation to R.J. Cole for keeping
Nancy French a pauper of this County from this time to the first of October
1848 and there being present and presiding on the bench a majority of all the
Justices in Benton County and all voting in the affirmative it is ordered by
the Court that the said R.J. Cole be allowed and paid the sum of Thirty eight
dollars and that the Trustee of said County pay the same out of any money in
the Treasury for the payment of paupers not otherwise appropriated.
The Court then proceeded to Make an appropriation
to Hezekiah Greer for keeping William Rushing a pauper of this County from this
date till
Rolan Rushing Collector of the public and County
taxes for the County of Benton for the year 1847 appeared in open Court and
returned a list of taxable property and polls in said County and oath being
Made to the same as prescribed by law that the same is insolvent and removed
and that he had been unable to collect the State and County taxes due severally
thereon or any part thereof for the said year 1847 which said report is as follows

The Court then proceeded to Make an appropriation to John W. Davidson for services rendered as Commissioner of the Town of Camden and there being present and presiding on the bench a Majority of all the Justices of Benton County and all voting in the affirmative it is therefore ordered by the Court that the said Davidson be allowed and paid the sum of Twenty Six dollars and that the Treasurer of the board of Commissioners retain the same in his hands for said purpose accordingly.

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that John Russell be appointed overseer of the road to work from the Town of Camden to Burnside Creek, hands as follows; R.C. Carnes, Daniel Holland, C.M. Sarrett, A.F. Routon and hands, M.L. Travis and all other hands in the bounds shall work under said Russell on said road which is established in the 1st Class.
