At a County Court began and held for the County of Benton at the Courthouse in the Town of Camden on the first Monday in November it being the 4th day of said Month in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & forty four and 69th year of American Independence there being present and presiding on the bench the worshipfuls, Esqrs. D.P. Hudson Chairman, Elijah Alsop, Geo. W. Farmer.
Personally appeared in open Court Robert Rushing who was this day
chosen and appointed guardian of Nancy Ann Bomer a
Minor orphan and together with him George W. Farmer his security appeared in
open Court and acknowledged the due execution of their bond in the penal sum of
one thousand dollars conditioned as the law directs for the faithful discharge
of his duties as such guardian.
On Motion of Hearty Hansel Who Made oath according to law and together with
her, Roland Rushing and John We Utley her securities who appeared in open Court
and acknowledged the due execution of their bond in the penal sum of Eight
hundred dollars conditioned as the law directs.
Whereupon it is ordered by the Court that the said Hearty Hansel have
letters of administration upon the Estate of James Hansel deceased to be Made
out in due form of law when required.
Personally appeared in open Court David Morris and produced a certificate of
his Election to the office of Constable of the fifth Civil District of Benton
County which certificate bears date the 22nd day of October 1844 and
together with him David Brewer, W. P. Morris, E. Perkins and J.W. Utley his
securities who appeared in open Court and acknowledged the due execution of
their bond in the penal sum of four thousand dollars conditioned as the law
directs. Whereupon the said David Morris
appeared in open Court and took an oath to support the Constitution of the
On Motion it is ordered by the Court that Hugh B. Snider appointed overseer
of the road from Point Mason to the Widow McKinzie’s
and the following hands shall work under said Snider (viz)
Geo. W. Bell, William Bell, Brackston Bell, William
Holland, Lewis Holland, Nicholas Brewer Jr., Thomas Colier,
Ludwell Grissom and all the hands at Point Mason
subject to work on roads shall work under said Snider on said road which is
established in the 2nd Class.
On Motion it is ordered by the .Court that Gilbert McKinsie
be appointed overseer of the road to work from Nancy McKinsies
to Wyatt's Bridge; hands as follows; A.P. Smith, Neil McNeil, Ezekial McBride, John Wyatt, James Yarbrough, Daniel Buchanan,
Robert Graham, Daniel Graham, Laughtin Beaton, Malcomb Beaton, Thomas Pitt and Alsey
McDaniel and all other hands in these bounds shall work under said McKensie on said road which is established in the 2nd
Class.
The Clerk of this Court presented a settlement pro rata of the estate of
George Bell deceased which said settlement was examined and referred back to
said Clerk with the necessary instructions therein specified.
On Motion it is ordered by the Court that D. P. Hudson, Willis Rushing and
J.F. Florence be appointed Commissioners to lay off
and set apart a year’s provisions for the widow & family of James Hansel
deceased and Make report to the next term of this Court.
On Motion it is ordered by the Court that John Higdon be
attached to and work under James Hudson on the stage road in addition to his
former hands.
On Motion of Amos Bruce and Jesse Bruce who Made
oath according to law and together with Jesse Hammonds and Cullen Nowell their securities who appeared in open Court and
acknowledged the due execution of their bond in the penal sum of one thousand
dollars conditioned as the law directs.
Whereupon it is ordered by the Court that they have
letters of Administration upon the estate of James Bruce deceased to be Made
out in due form of law when required.
On Motion it is ordered by the Court that Jeremiah Perry, Richard Jerrel and Thomas Osburn Sr. be
appointed Commissioners to lay off and set apart a
sufficiency of provisions to serve the widow and family of James Bruce deceased
one year and Make report to the Next term of this Court.
Personally appeared in open Court Luberry Hill who
was this day chosen and appointed guardian of the Minor heirs of William Pickler deceased and together with him Joseph Pickler his security appeared in open Court and
acknowledged the due execution of their bond in the penal sum of seventy five
dollars, conditioned for his faithful discharge of said guardianship.
Court then adjourned until Court in Course.
