November Term 1842

 

State of Tennessee, Benton County, Nov. Term 1842

At a County Court began and held for the Court of Benton in the Town of (omitted word) Tennessee on the first Monday of November it being the seventh day of said Month and in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty two, and the sixty seventh year of American Independence, the (omitted word) being present and presiding on the Bench, the worshipfuls, Esquires. D.P. Hudson, Chairman, E. Perkins, and G.W. Farmer, Esquires to hold said Court of Quorum.

The Court then proceeded to appoint Jurors to serve at the Next term of the Circuit Court to be held for the County of Benton in the town of Camden on the Second Monday in January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & forty three, their Names are follows (to wit).

First District; Pleasant Mullinicks and M.C. Barnett
2nd District; Moultam Merrick and Hillsmand King
3rd District; Alfred Burn, James Marchbanks, Geo. Thomason
4th District; Moses Jourdan, Thomas Jones, Neadham Short
5th District; John Beavers, David Cuff, James Alston and J.J. Florence
6th District; William Wiseman, Thomas Ward and Geo. Francisco.
7th District; John P. Benton, Will W. Holland, and Merrit Melton.
8th District; James Taylor, Robert Jones, and T.L. Floyd.
9th District; Jesse D. Hall, Laughlin Beaton and R.S. Ward - Com's.

to wait on said Court & that Venire Facias Issue Accordingly.

Issued 20th Nov. 1842.

On Motion of a petition to view a road from the town of Camden to Perry County line running between the two roads now leading to Perryville and Crossing Birdsong Creek at some convenient place between the two former roads on a direct line to Perryville, it is therefore ordered by the court that said Petition be granted & that the following persons be appointed a Jury of Review as follows (to wit) Zachariah Barker, Wm. Swindle, Allen Gossett, Jesse Hammonds, John McElwain, Jas. H. Bell be a jury of review and that they Make report of the same to the next term of this Court showing the advantages & disadvantages that May arise to the Public if said road should be established a public highway.

Nov. Term 1842

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that Joshua Waggoner be appointed overseer of the road in room of Wm. Jenkins from Hogs Mill to Perry County line & that all the hands that formerly worked under said Jenkins or in the bounds shall Now work under said Waggoner on said road & said road is established in the 2nd Class.

Issued 10th Nov. 1842.

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that Robert Rushing Jr. be appointed overseer of the road in room of S.M. Corbett from the Martin house on Rushing's Creek to the fork first class & from that to the top of the Ridge between Harmon's Creek and Rushing's Creek 2nd Class and that all the hands that formerly worked under said Corbitt or in the bounds shall now work under said Rushing & said road is in the 1st & 2nd Class.

Issued 10th Nov. 1842.

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that Charles Haynes be appointed overseer of the Hubbs ferry road from Unionville to the Carroll County line & that all the hands that formerly worked under J.A. Jordan or in the bounds shall now work under said Haynes & said road is in 2nd Class.

Issued 10th Nov. 1842.

An Inventory and account of sale of the Estate of William Pickler Deceased was presented to the Court and ordered to remain in the Clerks office for the probate of the administrator at the Next term of the Court.

Court then adjourned until Court in Course.
