August Term 1845

 

State of Tennessee, Benton County, August Term 1845.

At a County Court began and held for the County of Benton at the Courthouse in the Town of Camden on the first Monday in August.  It being the 4th day of said Month in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & forty five & 70th year of American Independence there being present and presiding on the bench the worshipfuls, Esqrs. D.P. Hudson, Chairman, John W. Davidson, Jonathan K. Thomas.

The Clerk of this Court presented a settlement Made with Calvin Hall, Administrator of the estates of William and Henry Hall, deceased which said settlement was examined and approved by the Court and ordered to be recorded.

The Clerk of this Court presented a settlement Made with John Bell and J.T. Florence Administrator of the estate of George Bell, deceased which said settlement was examined and approved by the Court and ordered to be recorded.

The Clerk of this Court presented a settlement Made with Alexander McRae, of the Minor heirs of Mathew Melton, deceased, which said settlement was examined and approved by the Court and ordered to be recorded.

The Clerk of this Court presented a settlement Made with Presley Thorton, guardian for Eliza Harrison which said settlement was examined and approved by the Court and ordered to be recorded.

The Clerk of this Court presented a settlement Made with Joel Rushing, guardian of the Minor heirs of Abel Rushing, deceased which said settlement was examined and approved by the Court and ordered to be recorded.

The Clerk of this Court presented a settlement Made with John D. Rushing, guardian of Sytha A. Murray which said settlement was examined and approved by the Court and ordered to be recorded.

August Term 1845.

The Clerk of this Court presented a settlement made with C.K. Wyly, Treasurer of the board of Trustees of Benton County Academy which said settlement was examined and approved by the Court so far as the State fund is concerned and no farther and ordered to be recorded.

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that Wm. K. Perkins, Simeon Higdon, R.N. Woods, Timothy Reaves, Allen T. Corbitt, S.V. Aden and Samuel Madden be appointed a jury of review to view and mark a Mill road from S.V. Adens Mill to intersect the road leading from the Town of Camden to Rushing’s Creek by the way of D.P. Hudson's and to make report to the next term of this Court of the advantages and disadvantages to the public and to individuals.

Issued Aug. 6th.

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that John M. Petty be appointed overseer of the road to work from Kirkman’s ferry to the stage road, hands as follows: R.C. Petty, John Russell, James Russell, William Cole, Stephen Boswell, E.F. Wills & hands; E.P. Wills, Warren Sayles & all other hands in the bounds shall work under said John M. Petty on said road which is established in the 2nd Class.

Issued Aug. 6th.

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that Robert L. Ward be appointed overseer of the road in room of Henry Nisler to work from Rushing’s Creek to Sandy bottom and all the hands that formerly worked under said Nisler or in the bounds shall now work under the said R.L. Ward on said road which is established in the 1st Class.

August Term 1845.

On Motion it is ordered by the Court that Jonathan K.Thomas, Anderson Lashlee, Wm. P. Morris, J.B. Carns and D.P. Hudson be and they are hereby appointed a committee to draft a suitable plan for a jail for Benton County and to Make report to the October term of this Court.  And it is further ordered by the Court that the Clerk ascertain as near as he can the amount of funds in the hands of the commissioners of the Town of Camden for the building of said jail and report to this Court at its October Term.

Personally appeared in open Court Mary Swift who was this day chosen and appointed guardian of the Minor heirs of Harvy Swift, Sr. deceased and together with her, Levin Cottingham and John F. Johnson, her securities who appeared in open Court and entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penal sun of one thousand dollars, conditioned as the law directs.

Personally appeared in open Court Nancy Brown who was this day chosen and appointed guardian of Matila N. Brown and together with her, Laton P. Pearce and Levin Cotingham her securities who appeared in open Court and entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penal sum of Three hundred dollars, conditioned as the law directs.

Court adjourned until Court in Course.
