I am a descendant of William Shook who was born in VA and married Catherine Sears. They moved to TN and. made their home in the District south of French Broad and Holston Rivers, now Knox County. His land lay along Shook Mill Creek (now known as Burnett’s Mill Creek) about nine miles from Knoxville. More than 20 years after it is thought he made his home there, and more than 10 years after TN became a state, he finally gained legal possession and a record was made of it on 2/10/1807, recorded as Grant No. 602 on 6/8/1809 (TN Grant Book 1, Pg 602). On Burnett’s Creek, near the 1960 home of James B. Bolin, are evidences of an old mill dam, thought to be the site and Wm. Shook’s mill on the creek once known as Shook Mill Creek. William and Catherine were parents of 11 children: Margaret 5/29/1766-9/18/1838 1st husband George Allen Brock 2nd husband Anthony Reagor parents of 9 children; William, Jr. 12/11/67- 1840 approx – married Elender Waters parents of 10 children; Abraham Shook 1770-1850to1860 married Mary Donaldson; Isaac Shook; Sarah Shook born 1774 died soon after 1850; Jacob Shook 12/17/1777-12/22/1834 married Eleanor Veach, parents of 7 children; Magdalena married Samuel Montgomery; Mary Ann 12/21/1782 and died before 1845 and married Thomas Carpenter III; Harmon Shook 9/15/1778 married Margaret McMillan in Knox Co on 2/16/1808 (MY GGGG GRANDPARENTS); Jemima who married Rowley McMillan on 3/8/1807 in Knox Co; John Shook who married Catherine Wilson on 8/7/1816. William sold his remainingI land to Joshua Monday on 10/11/1811 and moved to the wilderness – Flat Creek – in Bedford County, TN. He lived here until his death and was buried in the Shook Graveyard. I believe after the Civil War a new Shook family came to Knox County from North Carolina, whereas William came from Virginia (Hampshire County was in Virginia prior to Civil War but are now part of West Virginia). Do I have any cousins out there?

DAVIDSON Capt. Alexander DAVIDSON, son of Joseph and Sarah DAVIDSON of NC, was born about 1755 in Rowan Co., NC, married about 1769 to Henrietta Jane Clayton and died after Nov. 1818 in Liberty Valley, Belfast, TN. I believe he had three daughters and five sons, one of whom was my gggrandfather: Obediah S. DAVIDSON. Obediah DAVIDSON, born in NC on 5 Feb 1798, married Eleanor CARPENTER in Lawrence Co, AL on 5 Sep 1822. Eleanor was the daughter of Enoch and Sarah (Evans) CARPENTER of Amherst, VA. Obediah and Eleanor had a daughter Louisa, who married Wiley Wilkerson of Giles Co., TN, and five or six sons: Wilkes DAVIDSON, my ggrandfather, Edward DAVIDSON, Joseph DAVIDSON and Sherrod DAVIDSON who was killed by Union soldiers in the Battle of Atlanta. Thomas DAVIDSON also appears with the family in the 1850 census and could be the sixth son. I would love to prove or disprove the connection between Obediah DAVIDSON of NC and AL and Alexander DAVIDSON of NC and TN. Can anyone out there help? Thanks.

Thanks.
