HENRY LYNN&WIFE MARGRET KIMERY

The Henry lynn family left Bedford County around 1850 on a wagon train to Pike county AR. I have heard that there were 28 wagons in the group. From the Pike County census the last child born in TN. was in 1849 and the first in AR. was 1851. Would like any information about this trip that anyone has.

WHITNEY, NORTON I am researching William O. Whitney who was enumerated in the 1820 Census of Bedford with 7 males and 2 females living in his household. CUNNINGHAM, MCWHORTER

Looking for descedants of CUNNINGHAMS who lived in Bedford Co. in the early 1800’s. In 1808, JAMES CUNNINGHAM (son of HUMPHREY CUNNINGHAM) died in Anderson Co,TN, leaving widow JANE McWHORTER and several children. Jane and her brothers HANCE McWHORTER AND MOSES McWHORTER moved to the Bedford/Rutherford area–I believe to live near Cunningham relatives. Jane and her son HANCE CUNNINGHAM purchased land in Bedford in 1812. Later, in 1820, Jane and family moved to Lawrence Co,Ala to live near her son Hance who was the first sheriff of Lawrence Co. I believe some Cunninghams, other children of Humphrey Cunningham, remained in Bedford Co.

CROWELL

I’m trying to locate information on my paternal grandmother, who married Wm. Frank CROWELL, originally from the Wheel community between Shelbyville and Lewisburg, TN. Her name was Elizabeth, and was supposedly halfblood Cherokee, although this connection wasn’t discussed much by either her nor my grandfather while they were alive. Her appearance, however, was very Native American in character and this would tend to support that assertion. Both died recently in the mid 1990s, also in Bedford Co., although they lived for approximately 40 years previously in Nashville. In particular, I’m trying to locate Elizabeth Crowell’s maiden name, which should give me some further pointers that may lead directly back to a Cherokee ancestor.

HASTINGS, YELL

Seeking information on the YELL family in former Bedford or present Marshall Counties, the namesakes? of the community of YELL east of Cornersville in present Marshall Co. Archibald YELL, Gov. of Arkansas in the 1840s and Mexican War hero/casualty, was from the Bedford and Lincoln Co, TN area, the forerunners of Marshall Co. Have two direct descendants from William C. HASTINGS line also (temporarily?) from Bedford Co. area who arrived in 1834 in NW Arkansas. His son George William (b. 1825 Bedford Co.) consistently used “YELL” as a middle name for his two sons later in the middle 1800s. Hope William C. DESHIELDS, DASHIELL, AUSTIN, MCBRIDE, WAMACK

About 1838-1840, WILLIAM DeSHIELDS and MARY ELIZABETH McBRIDE DeSHIELDS left Beach Grove, Tennessee headed for Oregon. It is known he had two brothers who may have left with him or followed soon after. They are HANDY DeSHIELDS and JOHN DeSHIELDS. It is believed there may have been a DANIEL DeSHIELDS and his family and FRANCES ELIZABETH DeSHIELDS who was unmarried. These last two have not been proven. Williams son, Jasper was born in Beach Grove, Tn in 1838. The family appeared on the Marion County, Arkansas census in 1840. I am unsure Beech Grove is in Bedford County. If anyone has any information on how to research these names in Tennessee, please let me know. In the 1840 census in Arkansas the name was spelled DASHELL. HANDY DeSHIELDS married NANCY WAMACK who is believed to be daughter of David WAMACK. DAVID was said to be full blood Indian and possibly a guide for the army. I would greatly appreciate any information anyone can give. Thank you.

Thank you.

Looking for information on the family of John S. Dwyer (born ca. 1810 in TN) and Elizabeth Webb, born ca. 1815 in TN). They were married in Williamson County 1838 Dec. 13. Williamson County also lists a marriage of John S. Dwyer to Matilda Jones, Feb. 1, 1837. Their children were: Joseph B. Dwyer (born 1838, perhaps the child of a previous marriage?), Louisa Anna, b. ca. 1843, Mary, b. ca. 1846, and Daniel H. Dwyer, b. 24 Dec. 1848 or 1849. Daniel H. Dwyer married Justine Elliott Cates. Perhaps more children that I don’t know about. They lived in Bedford Co., TN. Any information on this family would be most appreciated. Perhaps John S. Dwyer’s father was Daniel Dwyer.
