CHESHIRE/CHESSHIRE/CHESSER/CHESHIR/CHESSHIR I need records showing the names and information about the parents of a Daniel CHESSHIR who was born 5 Apr. 1824 in Virginia, probably Halifax Co., and married a Sallie RAULSTON (or ROLSTON) from Tennessee. Daniel and Sallie CHESSHIR were living in Tennessee, probably Bedford Co., in May 1845, when their first daughter, Elizabeth Jane CHESSHIR, was born. Their first son, James Riley CHESSHIR was born in Tennessee, in Jul 1846. The family soon after moved to Red River Co., Texas, where Daniel CHESSHIR appears on the county tax rolls in 1848. Daniel and Sallie CHESSHIR settled in Red River Co. and had eleven more children. He died in Red River Co., 26 Jun 1888 and is buried in the Halesboro Cemetery in that county. Some sources say that Daniel CHESSHIR’S given name was Nathaniel, that his father was Zachias CHESSHIR and his mother was Ketura (or Catherine)unknown surname. I need proof of these things. Census records specify that this Zachias CHESSHIR was born in Virginia (probably Halifax Co.), about 1791. Records show that Zachias CHESSHIR and his family were living in Bedford Co., Tennessee in 1835 and 1840, then in Red River Co., Texas in 1850.

John TOWNZEN Sr, John TOWNZEN Jr, Wm., Joshua, & Whitfield TOWNZEN in Bedford Co. TN 1800-1818. No record of them in Bedford after they sold land in 1818. 1820 census Stewart Co. TN has a John, William and two named Thomas TOWNZEN. Are these the same? Whitfield TOWNZEN & an Edmond TOWNZEN show up in St. Clair Co. IL, same time. All show born in NC. Need County in NC, need proof Bedford TOWNZEN’S are same as Stewart Co’s. Joshua & a George TOWNZEN are later in Maury Co. TN. What is connection for all these TOWNZEN’s. Family legend is that if it is spelled with the “Z” then they are family. In 20 years research, name may be spelled any number of ways, but if it’s the right on, any signature on document always has the “z” spelling. Can anyone connect these men for me? Thanks!

MARTINA CARPENTER Wed Feb 19 19:08:59 1997
CARPENTER-MCGUIRE-LEE-HARMON-SHARP. John Wesley CARPENTER, b. abt 1800- 1810, d. about 3 Dec. 1841 in Jefferson Co., IL. He married abt. 1830, to Temperance MCGUIRE, b. abt. 1810. She was the daughter of Thomas MCGUIRE and Ann LEE. They lived in Bedford Co., TN in 1830, then moved to IL. After death of John Wesley, Temperance may have married Elisha HARMON and moved back to Bedford Co. (1860 census) with children: Catherine CARPENTER, William HARMON, Rufus HARMON, Leonidas HARMON, and James K. Polk HARMON. By 1880 census, Elisha and Temperance HARMON had moved back to IL. The 1850 Marion Co., IL census shows Elisha and Temperance HARMON with children William and Louis, living next door to five children without parents: Noah CARPENTER, Thomas, CARPENTER (both born in TN), John CARPENTER, Catherine CARPENTER, and Emaline CARPENTER (all 3 born in IL). Was Temperance the mother of ALL these children? Was there an additional child named Melia Ann CARPENTER who married Thomas W. BRYAN? A Thomas B. CARPENTER married Ruth FIELDS in IL. A Thomas B. CARPENTER also married Nice Bell SHARP and lived in Maury Co., TN. Could these be the same Thomas B. CARPENTER? Need information on John Wesley CARPENTER marriage, children, and PARENTS. Would gladly share what I have.

CARPENTER-SHOOK-SEARS. Benjamin CARPENTER, b. abt 1785, d. possibly before 1820 in an accident while engaged in boating on the Mississippi River. His family may have been living in Indiana at the time. He supposedly signed a “Petition from the Inhabitants of Overton County, Tennessee to the Tennessee General Assembly” on 6 Oct 1815. About 1810/1812 he married Melia (Melea, Milly) SHOOK, b. abt 1787, d. after 1850. She may have been daughter of William SHOOK and Catherine SEARS of Bedford Co., TN. After Benjamin’s death, Melia lived in Bedford Co in 1820, then moved to Jefferson Co., IL in 1830. There is a Milly CARPENTER, with family, living in Bedford Co. in 1820 census but age doesn’t agree with later IL censuses. Is this Melia SHOOK? There is a Benjamin CARPENTER, with family, in Overton Co. in 1820 census. Is there a connection between them? Need any information on these CARPENTERS, SHOOKS, and SEARS. I will share what I have.
