Box 194, Lake City, Tenn.\u00a0 Telephone 3613 and 3297.\u00a0 Subscription rates:\u00a0 $2 per year.\u00a0 5 cents per copy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Local Man Killed<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Glen Bernard White, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Owen White of Detroit, and grandson of W. B. (Bill) White, manager of Community Hardware in Briceville, was killed in a truck accident near Toledo, Ohio, last week.\u00a0 He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Wilson White and one brother, James, of Cleveland, Ohio.\u00a0 Services were held Sunday at Laurel Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Lewis Ward officiating.\u00a0 Burial was in Leach Cemetery, Lake City.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FARMER<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Did you know one of the most unusual farms in East Tennessee is located right here near Lake City?\u00a0 We received a report that Mr. Fred Waddell had received a blue ribbon at the Knoxville fair for his white Leghorns and went on to win first prize at the state fair in Nashville.\u00a0 Your reporter went to visit Fred, who lives two miles north of Lake City on the new highway.\u00a0 We discovered that he not only has approximately 1300 chickens but raises pigs, pheasants, chucker quail, mallard ducks, geese and to our amazement we found he has a pond where he raises blue-gill and bass up to thirty inches long.\u00a0 In addition to all this, Fred has approximately 40 head of registered Herford cattle.<\/p>\n<p>During the month of September Fred sold 22,000 eggs to the people of Lake City and vicinity.\u00a0 We didn\u2019t realize before just how much bookwork there was to raising chickens.\u00a0 From about 4:30 to 6:30 every morning you can find Fred counting eggs, averaging the output of each hen individually, and culling out the fowls who are not productive.\u00a0 Fred cordially invites visitors to this unusual farm and anyone who is interested may find him just above the Mountain View Restaurant.\u00a0 His name is on the mail box.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STUDENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>J. K. Queener, a Lake City High graduate of 1954, is a student at Belmont College in Nashville.\u00a0 J. K. is not just an ordinary student who goes to and from classes\u2014he studies from 8 to around 2 and then reports to the War Memorial Building where he is assistant supervisor in the title department of Finance and Taxation.\u00a0 J. K. is studying to be an educational director.\u00a0 He hopes to attend the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary at Louisville.\u00a0 He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. I. D. Queener.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recipe of the Week<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Almond Loaf Cake by Mrs. Lillian Winfrey.\u00a0 1-1\/2 C sugar, 1 scant cup butter, 5 eggs, 2 C flour, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1 teaspoon almond flavor.\u00a0 Cream sugar and butter until light and fluffy.\u00a0 Drop eggs in one at a time and beat a moment (this is the secret of success in the cake).\u00a0 Add flour. Bake at 350 degrees for one hour.\u00a0 The longer the cake sets, the better the taste.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Eyes Have It<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Town Crier is being mailed out to 5 new subscribers this week who won six months subscription by correctly identifying the eyes of Adolf Hitler.\u00a0 The Lake City winners are Mrs. Kenneth Galbraith, Mrs. George Jahn, Mrs. Sparky Nawojczyk, Mrs. Anna Myers, and an Oak Ridge winner is Mr. J. B. Marshall\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>Another Picture in the \u201cDo You Remember?\u201d Series<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(Picture of girls\u2019 basketball team)\u00a0 This was not too many years ago\u20141949 to be exact. The Lake City Grammar School team, who won eleven games and lost none for that year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lakers and Jacksboro Tie<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Lake City Lakers battled to a 13-13 tie against the Jacksboro eleven on the home field before a record crowd last Friday night.\u00a0 It was to be the homecoming game for the Lakers but due to inclement weather this part of the schedule was postponed by school officials.\u00a0 The Lakers continue their good work and play at home again next Friday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>High School Hi Lites<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Spanish Club has been organized with Miss Ida Gamble as sponsor.\u00a0 The following officers were elected:\u00a0 President, Don Perkey; Vice-President, Annette Hatmaker; Secretary Sue Ann Jahn; Treasurer, Tommy Sharp and the Reporter is Kenneth Kesterson.<\/p>\n<p>Another club organized last week was the Future Homemakers of America, better known as the FHA Club.\u00a0 The club has Mrs. Paul Miller as its sponsor.\u00a0 The following officers were elected.\u00a0 President, Shirley Foust; Vice-President, Jerrie Queener; Secretary, Jo Ann Hamilton; Treasurer, Pat Hawkins; Historian, Nina Brazelle; Parlimentarian, Yvonne Newman and the report is Joan Albright.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Bean\u2019s Bible Class met and formed a Bible Club and elected officers as follows:\u00a0 President, John Wray; Vice-President, Shirley Foust; Secretary, Belva Eller and Reporter is Phyllis Duncan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WSCS Meets<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Women\u2019s Society of Christian Service met Thursday, October 4<sup>th<\/sup>, at the home of Mrs. H. M. Stokes.\u00a0 The program topic was \u201cVolcanoes in Southeast Asia\u201d led by Mrs. C. T. Miller.<\/p>\n<p>The Homemakers Club met last Tuesday at the home of Mrs. D. A. Weaver.\u00a0 A food demonstration was given by the Home Demonstration Agent, Miss Angie Fugate.\u00a0 Officers were elected for the coming year:\u00a0 Mrs. Glenn Greene, President; Mrs. Chris Bittle, vice-president; Mrs. Wes Van Nosdall, sec. and treasurer and Mrs. Maggie Duff, recording secretary.\u00a0 They meet the 1<sup>st<\/sup> Tuesday of each month.<\/p>\n<p>Your Town Crier may be bought at Corner Drug Store, Webbs Market.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CHURCH NEWS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The YWA Federation of the Clinton Association met at the First Baptist last Tuesday for their Quarterly meeting.\u00a0 Miss Robbie Stonecipher of Lake City was elected vice-president.<\/p>\n<p>The Friendship class of the First Baptist gave a program at the Sunday a. m. services.\u00a0 Those participating were Mrs. Chris Bittle, Mrs. Bonnie Page, Mrs. Carl Dew and Mrs. C. A. Cooper.\u00a0 The theme of the program was \u201cOur Expectations of Victory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Announcements from Main Street Baptist:\u00a0 Laymen\u2019s Day, October 14; Revival, October 21; Family Night, Wednesday 7:30 PM; Choir Practice, Wednesday 8:30 PM<\/p>\n<p>A revival will begin at the First Baptist Church on October 15, with Ralph Murray of the Smithwood Baptist Church in Knoxville in charge of services.\u00a0 Lawrence Luallen will be music director.<\/p>\n<p>October 14<sup>th<\/sup> will be observed as Laymen\u2019s Day for churches of the Tennessee Baptist Convention.\u00a0 The First Baptist Church has planned a special program with the Brotherhood in charge of the services.<\/p>\n<p>The American Legion Auxiliary\u2019s food sale last Saturday was a big success and another is planned for October 13<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 All proceeds from the sales are for the Legion building.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Advertisers<\/strong>:\u00a0 Boy Scouts of America and Freedoms Foundation; Phillips TV Service; Local Loan Co., Clinton, Tennessee; Oak Terrace Vista at the Norris Dam Motel; John M.
