Foust, President of the High School PTA, requests that all high school students who have not received polio vaccine to do so as soon as possible.\u00a0 The vaccine is now available to all students up to nineteen years of age.\u00a0 A date will be announced later when this vaccine will be given.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recipe of the Week\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pound Cake by Mrs. Katie Bennett \u2013 1 box powdered sugar, 1 box flour (measured in sugar box), 6 eggs, 3 sticks margarine, 1\/3 C milk, 1-1\/2 tsp. flavoring.\u00a0 Cream butter and sugar well.\u00a0 Add eggs one at a time and beat well. Add flour and milk alternately, starting with flour and ending with flour.\u00a0 Bake at 350 degrees 1 hour &amp; 15 min. in a tube pan.\u00a0 The secret of this cake is in the thorough beating.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DEWS VISIT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dew and children, Bess Ann and Stevie, have been home for a visit.\u00a0 Frank is in the automotive supply business in Houston, Texas.\u00a0 Frank says he is happy to be back in Lake City for a visit and hopes someday to return for good.\u00a0 Although he likes Texas, Frank added \u201cthere\u2019s no place like the Tenn, mountains.\u201d\u00a0 Frank said he was surprised recently by the visit of Betty and Hewey Fuller, former Lake City residents, now living in Houston.<\/p>\n<p>A fellowship night sponsored by the Methodist Men was held Monday night, August 27, in the basement of the church.\u00a0 An old-fashioned spelling bee was the highlight of the evening.\u00a0 After the program refreshments were served.<\/p>\n<p>The First Baptist Church will have a music school from September 10 to the 14<sup>th<\/sup> at 7:30 p.m. each evening.\u00a0 All choir members are urged to attend.\u00a0 Mr. Lawrence Luallen is music director.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight (Wednesday) the Main St. Baptist Church will have their business meeting.\u00a0 All officers, teachers and training union directors will be elected.<\/p>\n<p>The Briceville Methodist Church will hold its Annual Homecoming Sunday, September 9.\u00a0 All friends are cordially invited.<\/p>\n<p>Rev. T. R. Martin, pastor of the Lake City Church of God, has returned from a business and evangelistic conference in Memphis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WEDDINGS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr. J. L. Sharp of Lake City and Miss Wanda Goodykoontz of Briceville were married August 23, at the home of the officiating minister, the Rev. Ralph Cline in Briceville.\u00a0 Mrs. Sharp is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Prentis Goodykoontz and Mr. Sharp is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ned Sharp.\u00a0 Mr. Sharp graduated from Lake City High School and was a member of the football team.\u00a0 Mrs. Sharp also attended LCHS.\u00a0 They are making their home in Lake City.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Beatrice Ridenour Daugherty and Mr. Frank Hackworth were married August 24, at five o\u2019clock by the Rev. Claude T. Miller at the Methodist parsonage in Lake City.\u00a0 Mrs. Hackworth is a teacher in the Lake City grammar school and Mr. Hackworth is a retired farmer in Anderson County near Oliver Springs.<\/p>\n<p>Making their home in Lake City following their wedding on August 21 are Mr. and Mrs. Chester Hicks, Jr.\u00a0 The bride is the former Miss Dixie Ragsdale, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ragsdale of Oak Ridge.\u00a0 Mr. Hicks is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Hicks, Sr. of Lake City.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Have You Heard?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Visiting the Chas. Vowells last week were Mr. and Mrs. Otha Atwood and children of Harveyville, Kansas\u2026Roy Duncan and Elmer Lee are vacationing at Myrtle Beach, S.C\u2026Mrs. Farley Phillips, Jr. will join her husband in Dayton, Ohio on the 17<sup>th<\/sup>\u2026Mrs. Hood Wender left last week for Portland, Maine, to attend the funeral of her mother\u2026Russell Roach is home from Dayton, Ohio, for a visit\u2026Mrs. Bert Hatmaker of Canton, Ohio, is visiting her brother, Flint Keever and Mrs. Keever\u2026Mrs. W. C. Jones of Knoxville was a recent guest of her sister, Mrs. Frank Bennett\u2026Visiting Mrs. Vic Ford last week was her niece, Mrs. Lawrence Goins and her two children, of South Clinton\u2026Jean Elliott is vacationing in Gulf Hills, Ocean Springs, Mississippi\u2026the Christy Elliotts and the Vaughn Bennetts spent the Labor Day week-end at Myrtle Beach, S.C\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Tina Darlene, 4-1\/2 months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Tuttle was baptized Sunday, August 26 at the Ducktown Methodist Church.\u00a0 The Rev. E. F. Wood performed the Baptism.<\/p>\n<p>Fire Chief I. D. Queener has returned from Middle Tennessee State College at Murfreesboro where he studied advanced officers training in connection with fire-fighting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ISLAND FORD NEWS<\/strong> by Margret Foust<\/p>\n<p>Oscar Whitaker of Mansfield, Ohio, has been visiting his parents, the Fletcher Whitakers\u2026Mrs. J. John Tackett of Camp Polk, La\u2026visiting the Sam Strongs this week are their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. George Kelly Strong and son Jerry, of Detroit\u2026Bill Burton has been transferred from Fairbanks, Alaska to Nome, Alaska.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BIRTHS at Scott Hospital<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr. and Mrs. Mac Dilbeck, a boy, Gary Wayne; Mr. and Mrs. Don Wright, a girl, Marcello Faye; Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy McGhee, a girl, Charlene Cheryl<\/p>\n<p><strong>SPORTS as seen by Uncle Jake<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>These young fellas up here at the newspaper office talked me into going down to Clinton Friday night to see the opening football game between Lake City and Clinton.\u00a0 It was the first football game your Uncle Jake had ever seen so I am not making any comments on who did what good, but I told the editors that they could have a little of my column to say something.<\/p>\n<p>I sure did like those youngsters that yelled for their team all the time.\u00a0 I liked their costumes too.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t find out till I got home that the other people were supposed to help them yell, but nobody around me was hollering atall.\u00a0 I did hear one boy holler \u201cBeat Burrville.\u201d\u00a0 I would have liked it more if our band could have played more and louder.\u00a0 I wondered if our school had a school song.\u00a0 I guess they do though.\u00a0 Don\u2019t think I\u2019ll be able to make it next Friday to Ducktown but I\u2019ll be there in spirit.\u00a0 The two coaches out to be proud of their boys for the good sportsmanship they displayed and we know they will be an example to them the rest of the season.\u00a0 Good sportsmanship reminds me of an old saying that goes like this\u2026 \u201cAnd when the one Great Scorer comes, to write against your name, he writes, not that you won or lost, but how you played the game.\u201d\u00a0 See you next week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EDITORS NOTE<\/strong>:\u00a0 The Cheer Leaders Uncle Jake spoke of are:\u00a0 Head Cheer Leader Wilma Sharpe and Marsha Watts, Bobbie Turner, Pat Braden, Annette Hatmaker, Paul Vowell.\u00a0 We agree with all the things Uncle Jake has said.\u00a0 There were 3 players slightly injured:\u00a0 Capt.
