Laurence M. Dunlap, Oldtime fiddler dies.\u00a0 Fiddler in area dies of heart attack<\/strong>.\u00a0 A self-employed house painter and old-time fiddler, Laurence M. Dunlap, 77, of Old Highway 61, Clinton, Rt. 3, died at 3:35 a.m. last Thursday at Oak Ridge Hospital of a heart attack.\u00a0 Dunlap had been in the hospital since April 15 and had surgery the day before he died.<\/p>\n

Dunlap had been injured when his parked pickup truck rolled over him, causing cuts and bruises to his foot, chest and knee.<\/p>\n

He was a native of the Oak Ridge area, having been born and reared in what is now Jackson Square.\u00a0 He lived with his wife, Mrs. Evie Worthington Dunlap, whom he married in 1934, in the Robertsville community until the property was purchased by the federal government in the early 1940s for the Atomic City.\u00a0 They have lived in Clinton since then.<\/p>\n

Dunlap was a self-employed carpenter as well as house painter but he was probably best known for his fiddling.\u00a0 Teamed with guitarist Sanford Wright, Dunlap played fiddle at area functions for many years.\u00a0 He also enjoyed fishing and woodworking.\u00a0 Mrs. Dunlap is retired from Management Services, Inc., formerly of Oak Ridge, where she worked for 14 years.<\/p>\n

Graveside services were held Saturday at Sunset Cemetery in Clinton with the Rev. Hayward Highfill officiating.\u00a0 The family requested any memorials be in the form of contributions to the American Heart Association.<\/p>\n
