{"id":788,"date":"2011-09-03T13:19:31","date_gmt":"2011-09-03T08:19:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tngenweb.org\/anderson2\/?p=788"},"modified":"2017-06-09T16:32:24","modified_gmt":"2017-06-09T21:32:24","slug":"obituary-of-matt-melton-1970","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/andersoncounty\/2011\/09\/obituary-of-matt-melton-1970\/","title":{"rendered":"Obituary &#8211; Melton, Matt, 1970"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>Clinton Courier-News<\/em>, March 26, 1970, Section 1, page 6<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Melton, 81, dies after long illness<\/strong>.\u00a0 Born and raised at Andersonville, Matt Melton, 81, of Lake City Highway, Clinton Rt.2, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Lake City Hospital.\u00a0 He had been sick for several years.<\/p>\n<p>Melton had worked at coal mining and timber cutting during his life but was a farmer before he became ill.\u00a0 He had been a member of the Clinch River Baptist Church for 35 years.<\/p>\n<p>He leaves his wife, Mrs. Alice Stooksbury Melton; four sons, Isaac of Caryville, Homer of Louisville, Ky., Robert of Clinton and J. T. of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; five daughters, Mrs. Edith Webb of Powell, Mrs. Mageline Wilson of Florida, Mrs. Louise Webb of Clinton, Mrs. Hattie Cox of Heiskell and Mrs. Mary Ruth Rhea of Lake City; a sister, Mrs. Katherine of Kokomo, Ind.; 45 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[Transcribed by Stephanie A.
