{"id":491,"date":"2011-08-30T03:54:36","date_gmt":"2011-08-29T22:54:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tngenweb.org\/anderson2\/?p=491"},"modified":"2017-06-09T16:32:50","modified_gmt":"2017-06-09T21:32:50","slug":"obituary-of-jesse-newman-1965","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/andersoncounty\/2011\/08\/obituary-of-jesse-newman-1965\/","title":{"rendered":"Obituary &#8211; Newman, Jesse, 1965"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Clinton Courier-News<\/em>, April 15, 1965, Section 1, page 8:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Services held Saturday for Jesse Newman<\/strong>.\u00a0 Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Jesse Henry Newman, 75, Riverside Drive, Clinton, who died of a heart attack on Thursday morning at his home.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Newman, who was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church, was the father of Mrs. Frank Carmichael, Mrs. Gwyn Carver and James G. Newman, of Clinton.\u00a0 He moved to Clinton in the summer of 1961 after retiring as chief of police at Athens.\u00a0\u00a0 Mr. Newman had been a member of the Athens Police Department for 30 years when he retired.\u00a0 Other survivors are two other sons, Dacus of Chattanooga, and Mac Newman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.<\/p>\n<p>The services were held at First Baptist Church in Clinton with the Rev. Hayward Highfill and the Rev. Charles Bond officiating.\u00a0 Burial was in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Athens after brief services at First Baptist Church of Athens.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0[Transcribed by Stephanie A.
