Mamie Lois Saunders, 86, of Clinton, died Tuesday in Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.<\/p>\n
Born Feb. 25, 1909, in Ashe County, NC, she was the daughter of Wiley and Rebecca Jane Bare Severt. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, and doing for others.<\/p>\n
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy D. Saunders Sr.; sons, Roy D. Saunders Jr. and Joseph D. Saunders; sister, Sally Severt; brothers, Lynn Severt\u00a0and Barney Severt; and three grandchildren.<\/p>\n
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Bill Darwin and Linda Saunders of Nashville and Robert Lynn and Imogene\u00a0Saunders of Clinton; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and James Cooper, Peggy and Marshall Hackworth, and Jane and Frank Carey, all of Clinton; daughters-in-law, Lana Saunders and Marcia Saunders, both of Clinton; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bower K. Severt\u00a0and Robert Severt of West Jefferson, NC; sister, Nell Johnson of Sheffield, AL; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Gary and Kathy Lamb, Paul and Effie Webster and Mary Kate Reeves.<\/p>\n
Funeral service was Thursday in Holley-Gamble Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tom Byrge\u00a0officiating. Burial was Friday in McCarty Woodhaven Memorial Garden.<\/p>\n
