He retired from Union Carbide Corp. An avid baseball enthusiast, he played with the Knoxville Smokies and signed with the St. Louis Browns.<\/p>\n<p>He was preceded in death by his son, Steve \u201cZyro\u201d Allen; his mother, Betty Jane Allen; and brother, Arthur \u201cOtt\u201d Land.<\/p>\n<p>Survivors include his wife, Laura Clayton Allen; daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Keith Gaines; brother and sister-in-law, Victor and Glenna\u00a0Allen; cousin, Homer Logsdon; sisters-in-law, Blanche Lones, Gladys Peterson, Hazel Blalock, Beulah Wilder and Cynthia Clayton; and several nieces and nephews.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral service will be 2 pm Friday, May 6 at Weaver\u2019s Chapel with the Rev. Glen Gamble officiating.
