Obituary of Randell B. Amos, Sr., 1993:
Randell B. Amos Sr., 80, of Greenwood Drive, Clinton, died of cancer Aug. 10 at his home.
Mr. Amos was the son of Henry and Anna Belle Craig Amos. He was born March 10, 1913 in LaFollette.
He worked in coal mines in Tennessee and West Virginia for 17 years before moving to Manhattan Avenue in Oak Ridge. He worked for Tennessee Eastman Corp. at the Y-12 Plant as a stationary engineer in the Utilities Division. He later worked for Union Carbide Corp for 31 years, retiring on March 31, 1975. He also was co-owner of a Texaco Service Station in Lake City and a former member of the Anderson County Rescue Squad.
His hobby was working on refrigerators and cars. He also enjoyed bowling and visiting with friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie Ward Amos, on Oct. 14, 1975.
Mr. Amos is survived by his wife, Kate Penland Amos; daughters, Bobbie Carter of Virginia Beach, VA, Arlene Brown of Oliver Springs; sons, Randell Barton Amos Jr., of Midland, TX, Donald Amos of Crossville and Larry Amos of Seneca Falls, NY; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Arnold Amos of Vasper and Leon Amos of Lake City; sisters, Wilma Johnson of Oak Ridge; Mildred Dabney of Sandusky, OH, Jean Beach of Clearwater, FL.
Services will be held Thursday at 8:30 pm at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. The Rev. A.G. Dunnam will officiate. Burial will be 10 am Friday at Anderson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
