Obituary of Robert Roy Childers, Sr., 1980:
Operator of trailer park dies. Robert Roy Childers, Sr., 70, of State Highway 61, Clinton Rt. 5, died at 8:05 p.m. Sunday at Oak Ridge Hospital of heart disease. He had been ill since early July.
He was head of the Marlow Utility District maintenance department, and owned and operated Childers Trailer Park near his home. Childers was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church of Oak Ridge and enjoyed gardening and raising hogs.
He was a native of Piedmont, Ala. and lived in Oak Ridge in earlier years. His wife, Jewell Minton Childers, died about four years ago.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Roy Childers, Jr. and Virgil Roy Childers of Clinton Rt. 5; three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Betty) Ross of Orange Park, Fla., Mrs. John T. (Elsie) Farmer, Sr. of Clinton Rt. 7 and Mrs. Bobby (Robbie) Parker of Powell; a brother, Clyde Childers of Piedmont,; three sisters, Mrs. Jewell Johnson and Mrs. Ruby Wilson of Piedmont and Mrs. Fayrene Bell of Napa, Calif.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Weatherford Mortuary chapel in Oak Ridge with the Rev. Oscar Henley and the Rev. John Brantley officiating. Burial was in Anderson Memorial Gardens.
