Obituary of Herbert O. Childs, 1992:
Herbert Osborn Childs, 83, of Madison Heights, Mich., and formerly of Lake City, died Sept. 17 at his home.
He was a retired coal miner and member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was also a retired maintenance employee of Heins Potato Chip Co. of Detroit.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Maxwell; a son, Donnie Childs; parents, John and Elizabeth Childs; brothers, Clarence, Ernest and James Childs; and sisters, Marie Armstrong and Lavola Burnette.
Childs leaves is his wife, Joyce Disbrow Childs; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Odis Smith of South Gate, Mich. And Wilma and Ed Jaminski of Warren, Mich.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Vern Childs of Pembroke, N. C. and Charles and Diane Childs of Garden City, Mich.; two sons, Herbert O. Childs, Jr. of Ft. Lauderdale and James Robert Childs of Daytona Beach; two step-sons, Gary Gogol of Winston-Salem, N. C. and Paul Gogol of Detroit; 28 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, Juanita Parks of Lake City; and a brother, George Childs of Ft. Lauderdale.
The funeral was held Sept. 21 at Cox Funeral Home chapel, Lake City, with the Rev. Tom Aiken officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.
