MRS. IRA MITCHELL
Clinton octogenarian
Lawyouna Mitchell, 84, of Clinton, died at the home of her son, Herman Mitchell, Route 1, Clinton, about 4:30 a.m Saturday. Mrs. Mitchell had been making her home with her son following an illness of about a month.
Born in Newcomb, Tenn., Mrs. Mitchell came to Anderson County in 1932. During the war years she worked at Bush’s cannery in Clinton preparing food for the men in the armed services.
Mrs. Mitchell, who enjoyed family singings, was a member of Black Oak Baptist Church. She was a widow of the late Ira Mitchell, who died in September, 1957.
In addition to her son, Mrs. Mitchell is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Marie Thacker of Clinton; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were to have been held today at 2 p.m. at Black Oak Baptist Church with the Rev. Dilbert Payne officiating. Burial was to have been in the church cemetery.
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home of Clinton was in charge of the arrangements.
