Lake City ex-miner, farmer dies
Roscoe Burton, 76, of Strong Hollow Rd., Lake City Rt. 1, died at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at his home.
A retired miner, he worked in the coal mines at Beech Grove for many years. He was a member of Island Ford Baptist Church, and he enjoyed farming, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include eight daughters, Mrs. Marie Steckel and Mrs. Janie Johnson of Ladd, Ill., Mrs. Mack (Elizabeth) Sharp and Mrs. Bill (Anna) Halcomb of Lake City, Miss Sue Burton and Miss Kay Burton of Lake City Rt. 1, Mrs. Bill (Chareene) Langston of Clinton Rt. 1 and Mrs. Frank (Wanda) Cox of LaFollette; two sons, Johnny Burton of Lake City and Bennie Burton of Lebanon; a brother, Charles Burton of Combs, Ky.; a sister, Kate Foust of Lake city; 26 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Island Ford Baptist Church with the Rev. Charlie Mack Marlow, the Rev. R. S. Phillips and the Rev. S. E. Foust Jr. officiating. Burial was In the church cemetery.
