Obituary of Mamie Lois Saunders, 1995:
Mamie Lois Saunders, 86, of Clinton, died Tuesday in Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Born Feb. 25, 1909, in Ashe County, NC, she was the daughter of Wiley and Rebecca Jane Bare Severt. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, and doing for others.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy D. Saunders Sr.; sons, Roy D. Saunders Jr. and Joseph D. Saunders; sister, Sally Severt; brothers, Lynn Severt and Barney Severt; and three grandchildren.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Bill Darwin and Linda Saunders of Nashville and Robert Lynn and Imogene Saunders of Clinton; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and James Cooper, Peggy and Marshall Hackworth, and Jane and Frank Carey, all of Clinton; daughters-in-law, Lana Saunders and Marcia Saunders, both of Clinton; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bower K. Severt and Robert Severt of West Jefferson, NC; sister, Nell Johnson of Sheffield, AL; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Gary and Kathy Lamb, Paul and Effie Webster and Mary Kate Reeves.
Funeral service was Thursday in Holley-Gamble Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tom Byrge officiating. Burial was Friday in McCarty Woodhaven Memorial Garden.
